There are seven main chakras or energy centers located throughout the body. This article will detail the first of the seven, called the Root or Base chakra. The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine between the genitals and the anus.

Each chakra can be in one of four stages. The worst stage is closed, this means that no energy is getting through. The chakra can then progress through under-active, and then even more to an open stage. Open is the desire stage for each chakra. If there is too much energy, the chakra can become over-active.

An under-active or closed Root chakra has the following characteristics, lack of confidence, weak, unable to achieve goals, suicidal, sexual energy is non-existent, you feel unlovable, fear, insecure. If this energy center is blocked it can result in a core sense of unworthiness, self-doubt and shame. People with an under-active Root chakra often acquire and try to keep control of material possessions. They also have addictive personalities.

An open status has the following characteristics, you feel centered, grounded, healthy, fully alive, have unlimited physical energy, can manifest abundance, body is in good shape. People who have open root chakras love their lives and love their physical bodies.

If your Root chakra is over-active, you are egoistic, greedy, judgmental, opiniated, domineering and your sexual energy will be entirely genital. To tone down your root chakra, you can begin by wearing the color green and practice being present in the moment.

Red and Black are the colors of this chakra. You can give the root chakra energy by wearing these colors. Others ways to balance this chakra are to use stones and essential oils. This chakra is developed early on in life from within the womb to about 1 year old. This chakra’s enermy is fear and it’s element is earth.
